What are the essential aspects that you should take into consideration when choosing a tattoo?
Let’s have a look at what I call my four essential guidelines!
1. Interest!
Before choosing a tattoo, make a list of your hobbies, sports, and passions as well as the things you like, be they animals, flowers, or even foods! Do you have any religious inclinations? When you keep these things in mind, you’re guaranteed to end up with a tattoo design that reflects who you are and is perfect for you!
Also, keep in mind that the interest you pick your tattoo in is for life, and not just a fleeting fancy. It should be something that you’ve always been into and always will! Also, having a tattoo of your interest may just help you meet up with people who have the same interests by acting as an icebreaker. New friends!
2. Symbolism!
Always, always, check out the various connotations and meanings of the tattoo design you have in mind. This is important because different people deduce and react variedly to some tattoos. A tattoo can be interpreted differently by dissimilar cultures and religions, which is why you need to be sure that the tattoo you are getting is not offensive. Also, your tattoo design may just be the opposite of what your dogmas are, which is quite unsettling if you discover after!
Also, tattoo meanings change depending on the part of the anatomy they are etched on, the specific positioning of the tattoo or even its role in a group of body tattoos. However, do not let this pull you down. Remember, every tattoo has a different symbolic meaning, so if you’re all right with what you want to portray, go right ahead!
Search engines and tattoo websites will generally tell you the symbolism behind a particular tattoo image, if you wish to know. Tattoo artists can also help you out in this respect, especially if the tattoo design is one of their own!
3. Location!
Location, as mentioned before, is the all-important factor in tattooing. The position of the tattoo can convey a different meaning, as well as improve or detract from its appeal. For example, a tattoo on your arm will have a different sort of attraction compared to the same tattoo on your ankle.
Placement of the tattoo can say a lot of things about yourself: whether you’re inherently masculine or feminine, whether you’re a sensual or calm person and so on.
Location of the tattoo also serves to show that you’re a member of a specific cult, group or gang. There are plenty of secret societies whose members can be made out using specific tattoos in specific positions on the body!
Professional men and women place their tattoos on body parts which are in a precise and hidden spot. A woman may place a tattoo on her collarbone where it is hidden by a jacket at work, and shown off by wearing a low-cut gown for an evening out!
4. Aesthetics!
People generally do not get tattoos if they want to keep them hidden, they get them so that other people can see and admire them! This is one of the main reasons as to why aesthetic value is important when getting a tattoo.
A tattoo is not only important for its significance in your life, but also because it has great appeal and makes you look great as well as unique! Thus, you can show off your lovely tattoo and guess what: good body art is always worth a second, third and fourth glance!
I hope these tips helped you, to some degree, at least organize the reasons for choosing a tattoo, in order to help you choose one that's best for you.
